DONATE TO LOCAL FAMILIES IN NEED!
May 12, 2020
Dear Friends of Immigrant Families,
Immigrants, many of them undocumented, do essential work that sustains us all. In the state of California, undocumented people represent 10% of the workforce, and in 2019, they paid approximately $3 billion in state and local taxes. And yet, they are ineligible for the COVID-19 stimulus relief and other federal assistance programs.
An estimated 9,000 undocumented residents live and work in San Luis Obispo County. They are our neighbors, co-workers, friends, and fellow students. Many of them have lost their jobs or had their working hours cut back due to COVID-19.
SLO County UndocuSupport is a coalition of organizations and concerned community members working to raise funds to support the local undocumented immigrant community during this difficult time. We are working in partnership with The Community Foundation of San Luis Obispo County. Allies for ImmigrationJustice invites you to join us in supporting this effort by donating to the Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County’s Disaster Support Fund. Through the Disaster Support Fund, grants are being awarded to local organizations providing direct support to vulnerable community members, including immigrants. With your help, we can make a difference!
For more information about the fundraiser, read the UndocuSupport FAQ: sloundocusupport.org!
IMPORTANT: Please!!! When donating, write “SLO County UndocuSupport” on the donation form in answer to the question, “How did you hear about The Community Foundation?” This is how they will track the community interest in this important issue. THANK YOU!
UPDATE July 9, 2020:
Dear Friends of Immigrant Families:
In May, we asked you to join us in our fundraising effort to support undocumented immigrants in the county who are struggling to make ends meet due to COVID-19. THANK YOU so much to those of you who made a donation!
So far, grants have been awarded totaling close to $200,000 from The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County and Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees. The latest funds received will be disbursed by the end of July.
We envision a country where all people, regardless of immigration status, are treated with respect and dignity, and have access to a fulfilling and prosperous political, economic and social life.
We are a grassroots network of community organizations and individuals dedicated to:
centering impacted groups,
informing public opinion through community outreach and education, and
resisting unjust immigration policies and practices through political advocacy and direct action.
